Miyako Eye Clinic

I handled the copywriting and editorial work for the pre-opening flyer and teaser website, as well as the writing for the full website following the clinic’s opening in August 2025 in Miyako Town, Fukuoka Prefecture.

Miyako Town had never had an eye clinic before. The director, Dr. Egashira, set out with a concept he called “a clinic that nurtures and is nurtured in return.” The aim was to create a place that, while serving its medical purpose, would become part of the town’s landscape, somewhere that residents could genuinely call their own.

Through our conversations, what came into focus was not a clinic that leads with “state-of-the-art equipment” or “specialist credentials,” but one that becomes part of the community: a presence that brings a sense of ease to the people it serves. From that came the main copy: “An eye clinic that stays close to the town’s gaze.” The word “gaze” carries two meanings: the specialist eye of the physician, and the warm, familiar glance exchanged between people who share a place.

When I visited the site, the building was still under construction. Even so, what struck me was the ambition of the space being shaped: a room where music, the director’s personal lifelong passion, could be enjoyed; planting by Living Soil Laboratory that aimed for the feeling of “a clinic built inside a woodland”; and an overall semi-public quality that would make the space worth visiting even without an appointment. I worked to capture each of these elements in words, adding touches like a line evoking the everyday moment of “that slightly scratchy feeling in your eye,” all in a tone that felt close, honest, and free of any sense of pushing.
